v2 to v3 performance upgrade?

Post by patrick »

I'm happy with the v2 output quality, but would love to have more performance. My CPU is a i9 970 (6x3,7GHz+HT) with 12GB RAM, and my GPU is a ATI HD69xx (810MHz core, 2GB of 1250MHz memory).

What performance improvement can I expect upgrading from v2 to v3 - taking into account the 6+6 cores, and the HD69xx GPU?

Is there any situation where v3 quality can be worse than v2?

Please download and run the NeatBench tool described here.

It will give you an idea about v3 speeds on your specific hardware.

The quality in v3 is better than in v2, it is not worse.

Do you have an identical benchmark tool for v2 to take Vegas out of the comparison? The v3 Vegas Demo can't filter 1080p video, so I can't do a correct benchmark myself.

Frame: 1920x1080 progressive, 8 bits per channel, Radius: 1 frame
Running the test data set on up to 12 CPU cores and on up to 1 GPU

CPU only (1 core): 1.45 frames/sec
CPU only (2 cores): 2.97 frames/sec
CPU only (3 cores): 4.31 frames/sec
CPU only (4 cores): 5.56 frames/sec
CPU only (5 cores): 6.41 frames/sec
CPU only (6 cores): 7.04 frames/sec
CPU only (7 cores): 6.85 frames/sec
CPU only (8 cores): 6.62 frames/sec
CPU only (9 cores): 6.41 frames/sec
CPU only (10 cores): 6.25 frames/sec
CPU only (11 cores): 5.99 frames/sec
CPU only (12 cores): 5.85 frames/sec
GPU only (AMD Radeon HD 6900 Series): 6.21 frames/sec
CPU (1 core) and GPU (AMD Radeon HD 6900 Series): 5.35 frames/sec
CPU (2 cores) and GPU (AMD Radeon HD 6900 Series): 6.25 frames/sec
CPU (3 cores) and GPU (AMD Radeon HD 6900 Series): 7.14 frames/sec
CPU (4 cores) and GPU (AMD Radeon HD 6900 Series): 8.06 frames/sec
CPU (5 cores) and GPU (AMD Radeon HD 6900 Series): 9.09 frames/sec
CPU (6 cores) and GPU (AMD Radeon HD 6900 Series): 9.71 frames/sec
CPU (7 cores) and GPU (AMD Radeon HD 6900 Series): 9.8 frames/sec
CPU (8 cores) and GPU (AMD Radeon HD 6900 Series): 9.43 frames/sec
CPU (9 cores) and GPU (AMD Radeon HD 6900 Series): 9.52 frames/sec
CPU (10 cores) and GPU (AMD Radeon HD 6900 Series): 9.26 frames/sec
CPU (11 cores) and GPU (AMD Radeon HD 6900 Series): 9.17 frames/sec
CPU (12 cores) and GPU (AMD Radeon HD 6900 Series): 8.62 frames/sec

No, but from our experience and tests I can say that the CPU-only speed would be about 2 times lower in v2 (so about 3.5 fps). And there is no GPU in v2.

In v3, you can achieve 9.71 fps according to the test results. Looks like the speed up is significant.
