Old VHS tape with washed out colors?

Post by allenz »

Didn't want to have 2 different subjects in the same post.

Now I'm capturing some old VHS tapes from between 1989 and 1992 to put on DVD's. These are originals I shot with my original Zenith VHS camera (HA, still have it). Recorded SP.

On one of the videos, the colors seem washed out and lacking sharpness, like the leaves on the trees are more of an abstract oil painting. Not much detail. Not much actual "noise" in the video though.

How can I "remaster" this tape to make it somewhat sharp again? Will Neat Video help?

I can post a clip somewhere if need be.
Thanks again

You can try to use the NV sharpening for that. Disable all noise reduction (set noise reduction amounts to 0), enable sharpening and try different settings.

Thanks Vlad
I'll try that.
Here's a frame from the video.
