Long Render time.....................

Post by pc001 »

WOW, I just did another test on NeatVideo, on a 1min HDV with the demo. The video is somewhat dark, applied NV + Level (L) + Color Balance (CB), it takes 30+min to render out to MPEG2 (DVD) format. If I take away L & CB, it still takes 25+min! I can not imagine what it will be like to render for a HDV footage that is 1 hr long!! Is this normal for my settings:

AMD x64 Dual Core 3800+ (Overclocked to ~4800+) very stable system. 1G DDR RAM, 100G free space... PPro 2.0, 720x480 project setting, Render in CBR 7MB Quality 5...

Anything else I am doing wrong in setting this up?
If I do purchase the NV Pro version, do I have some money back guarantee situation, like a trial for several days?

Thanks for your help.

The Demo plug-in should filter only 640x480 pixels in each frame. On a Core 2 Duo 3.26 MHz, NV with Time Radius=2 gave 7 fps in our test with a similar 640x480 video clip. In your test, the speed seems to be just 1 fps (25 fps * 60sec / 60sec/min * 25 min). This difference may be caused by different Time Radius used in your project. Also, the output compression may slow things down in your project, you may want to try another codec or no compression for comparison. Anyway, it seems to be going slower than expected. If you can please try rendering the same project on a recent Intel processor for comparison, I suspect it will be faster.

You don't need to buy the Pro plug-in to do the tests. Please use the Demo for tests without any time limitations.

Thank you,

Vlad,
Again, thank you for you quick response. I now hesitated on NV due to this slowwww rendering. I love the results, thought, slight blurry, but acceptable. No, I don't have Intel CPU, but AMD64 x2 Dual Core, like I stated in my post.
Anyone has Intel DuoCore CPU and HDV files for a test? Is my results acceptable? If 1min HDV = 25min render, 1 hr = 60*25 = 1500min (25hrs or 1 day?) of rendering?
BTW, when I see the rendering, I also see both core works at 70-80% capacity. So, it is just slow... I guess.

Another figure: a 720x480 footage in Pro plug-in for Premiere, with Temporal Filter Radius = 1, is processed at 2.8fps on a 2GHz Core 1 Duo; CPU usage > 90%.
