Testing OpenCL-enabled GPUs for Neat Video

Post by NVTeam »

Dear forum members,

We are evaluating the technical possibility and benefits of using OpenCL-enabled AMD GPUs in Neat Video and are currently looking for users of Neat Video who would be willing to run several tests on their computers with AMD GPUs. At this stage we will use Neat Video for Vegas and Neat Video for Premiere (Mac version) for testing, so if you can run one of these versions then you are in perfect position to help us. You can also help by running the test application (NeatBench) on your computer and sending us the results.

What you will need:

Windows:
  • 1. A computer running a 32-bit or a 64-bit version of Windows 7 / Vista / XP;
    2. One of the following AMD/ATI GPUs:
    • * ATI Radeon HD 57xx/58xx/59xx;
      * AMD Radeon HD 67xx/68xx/69xx;
      * AMD Radeon HD 77xx/78xx/79xx.
    3. AMD Catalyst 12.4 driver installed;
    4. Sony Vegas 11 (32 or 64-bit);
    5. A current v3 license for Neat Video Home or Pro plug-in for Vegas; if you have an older license, please contact support [at] neatvideo.com; if you want to try the Demo version, please also contact support by e-mail;
    6. Preferably non-production machine that you can use for testing.
Mac OS X:
  • 1. One of the following computers running Mac OS X Lion (10.7.0 or higher) or newer:
    • * Mac Pro with ATI Radeon HD 5770/5870;
      * iMac with AMD Radeon HD 6750M/6770M/6970M;
      * 15" and 17" MacBook Pro with AMD Radeon HD 6750M/6770M;
      * Other configurations with some ATI/AMD Radeon HD 5xxx/6xxx models (please contact us to check if your GPU is supported).
    2. Adobe Premiere CS6 (Mac);
    3. A current v3 license for Neat Video Home or Pro plug-in for Premiere (Mac); if you have an older license, please contact support [at] neatvideo.com; if you want to try the Demo version, please also contact support by e-mail;
    4. Preferably non-production machine that you can use for testing.
To run the tests and provide your feedback please do the following steps:
  • 1. Download and unzip NeatBench (a GPU detection and benchmark application) to the Desktop: 2. Run NeatBench on your computer;
    3. Once NeatBench finishes, collect its log file: a file with the name starting with NeatBenchLog in your home folder;

    4. Collect the system information:

    Windows:
    • a. Go to Start menu, select Run, enter msinfo32 and click Ok;
      b. In System Information window, use the menu File > Save... to save the report as Win.nfo to the Desktop.
    Mac OS X:
    • a. Click on Apple logo in the top-left corner of the screen, select About This Mac;
      b. Click More Info...;
      c. Click System Report...;
      d. Use the menu item File > Save... and save the report as Mac.spx to the Desktop.
    5. Please then e-mail NeatBenchLog as well as Win.nfo (or Mac.spx) to support [at] neatvideo.com.
We will then prepare a test version of Neat Video for your system and will send you a download link. Then please download and try to use the test version as you would normally use a regular version of Neat Video. Try to enable AMD GPU in Preferences of Neat Video and see how that works. Run Optimize, compare performance of the AMD GPU and CPU. If you discover any abnormalities, crashes, hangs, etc., please describe them here in this thread, fill out the bug report form or send an e-mail to support [at] neatvideo.com. We will then try to find a solution to any newly discovered problem as soon as possible.

Thank you very much,
Vlad
