Streamline color grading in DaVinci Resolve

Color grading is a creative process, but without consistency, it quickly falls apart. Many editors, especially those coming from photography, get caught up in perfecting individual frames.

The problem is that films and videos are made of sequences, not single images. This is where groups in DaVinci Resolve come in. By assigning clips to a group, you can apply adjustments at the scene level instead of regrading each shot one by one. Resolve splits groups into three stages: group pre-clip for technical corrections, clip for local adjustments, and group post-clip for creative grading.

This layered approach keeps technical work and artistic choices cleanly separated. It also allows you to pivot a look across an entire sequence with just a few adjustments. Professional colorists rely on this method to stay efficient in client sessions, where speed and consistency matter most. Using groups not only saves time but also helps you focus on creativity while maintaining control of the bigger picture. Read more
